Our Rugby Union Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans (KS3 & KS4) include:

To perform the basic fundamental skills of Rugby Union e.g. Passing, Receiving, Tackling, Scrummaging, and Beating/outwitting an Opponent.
To develop their knowledge and understanding of these skills; the major rules and laws within the game regarding these skills and in the game; and to understand why they warm-up and cool down when performing.
Students are constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques.
To develop and incorporate all the skills into 11 v 11 games e.g. Kicking, mucking, Mauling, Scrummaging, Outwitting a player, the different types of passes, and officiating small-sided games.
To develop their knowledge and understanding of these skills, the basic tactics, strategies, laws and rules used in the game of Rugby e.g. The rules of Rucking, Mauling, and Tackling. I want the students to show a clear understanding of the certain positions of the players on the pitch and their roles and responsibilities.
Throughout the phases the students are to be constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques.
They must show clear knowledge and understanding of the benefits of exercise and those of a warm-up and cool-down to the body prior to and after exercise.
To be able to perform, develop and incorporate the fundamental skills of Rugby into a full-size game. I want them to use their knowledge and understanding so that they can use these skills with precision, accuracy, fluency and clarity in any situation when attacking or defending.
They should further develop and improve their knowledge, understanding and planning of the tactics, set plays, outwitting opponents and principles of the game.
Through this development the students are to be constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques.
They should also understand the laws and the scoring systems of the game, recognising the importance of the rules within it (when officiating or playing).
They should understand and know the benefits of short/long term effects of exercise on the body.
To be able to perform, develop and incorporate the fundamental skills of Rugby into a full-size competitive game.
To use their knowledge and understanding so that they can use these skills with EXCELLENT precision, accuracy, fluency and clarity in any situation.
They should enhance their knowledge, understanding and planning of the tactics, set plays and principles within a competitive game of rugby.
Throughout the phases students are to be constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques.
