Our Hockey Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans (KS3 & KS4) include the following objectives, themes and aims plus much much more:

  • To be competent in and be able to further develop existing skills of sending receiving and travelling with a ball, i.e. The push pass, receiving a push pass, dribbling with the ball, shooting,  and outwitting an opponent.
  • To also enhance their performances and creativity through playing small-sided games of hockey and incorporating refined skills.
  • They will also have an understanding of the basic laws and lines on the pitch that govern the games alongside a developing knowledge of techniques, tactics and compositional ideas to produce efficient and effective outcomes.
  • Throughout the phases students are constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques. Also, the pupils should start performing the skills in small-sided games and understand and know the foundational principles of the game such as looking up, communication and space.
  • To develop existing skills of sending, receiving and travelling with the ball, i.e. The reverse push pass, the slap, the Indian dribble and advanced methods of beating a player.
  • To play small-sided games, increasing both skill level and knowledge and understanding of rules and laws that govern the games 
  • Throughout the phases students are constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performances and high-quality techniques. 
  • To develop an understanding and knowledge of the tactics and strategies involved in a game of hockey
  • To be able to perform the fundamental skill used within a full-sided game of Hockey. 
  • The pupils should be able to develop knowledge and understanding of the positions in hockey, and the roles and responsibilities of these positions. 
  • Throughout the phases, they should develop skills and understanding of set situations in hockey and therefore enhance their knowledge of the laws and rules of hockey and apply them to a game situation. 
  • To develop an understanding and knowledge of the tactics and strategies involved in a game of hockey.
  • Throughout the phases students are constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques. 
  • The students will also understand the importance of being prepared for physical activity alongside having a clear understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle whilst participating in Hockey.
  • To be able to perform the fundamental skill used within a full-sided game of Hockey to a very competent level. 
  • To know, understand and perform the skills within many situations found within a game of Hockey e.g.  Long / Penalty corners.
  • To also be able to recognise the importance of responding to changing situations within the game in attack and defence. Throughout the phases students are also constantly asked how to outwit opponents; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performance and high-quality techniques.  
  • They should understand the laws of the game and be able to start to officiate matches fairly and correctly perform the correct signals. 
  • They understand and know the stretches for all major muscles and those specific to Hockey
